UK bagel maker New York Bakery Co. is supporting The Trussell Trust with donations of bagels and proceeds from the inaugural edition of the New York Bakery Co. Race on 25th September 2016. The family event will see employees, South Yorkshire residents and running enthusiasts from across the country gather at the Rother Valley Country Park to support Trussell Trust foodbanks close to the company’s factories in Rotherham and Maidstone.

Runners will join thousands across the globe in the first UK leg of the Global Energy Race series, which takes place in 37 cities across the globe on the same day. For each kilometre run, the New York Bakery Co. will donate one bagel to the Burngreave, Medway, Sheffield S6 and Sittingbourne foodbanks. These will be added to the three-day, nutritionally-balanced emergency supply of non-perishable foods which have been donated by the local community. Proceeds from registration fees from runners will also be donated to The Trussell Trust.

Tim Barkey, Marketing Director at New York Bakery Co., says:

“As a local business, we feel strongly about supporting the South Yorkshire community – and what better way to do this than by donating our bagels to those most in need in the area. The New York Bakery Co. Race is all about encouraging our staff and local residents to get active as part of a healthy lifestyle, but also placing the emphasis on getting everyone together for a great cause – beginners and advanced runners, young and old alike. There are 3k, 5k and 10k races to choose from and every kilometre counts. There is still time to sign up, and we’re hoping that with enough support, we can reach our goal of 10,000 bagels donated!”

David McAuley, Chief Executive of The Trussell Trust, adds:

“We’re happy to be the chosen charity for the New York Bakery Co. race. Today, people need foodbanks more than ever – last year alone, The Trussell Trust gave 1,109,309 three-day emergency food supplies to people experiencing crisis in the UK. Our foodbanks are about much more than just food: they provide a listening ear and offer support and advice. The funds raised from the registration fees will go directly to The Trussell Trust, supporting the charity’s work to provide people with food and support to break out of poverty. Put simply, it means The Trussell Trust can be there for even more people and I hope this is just the start of a great partnership with the New York Bakery Co.”
