From the 1st to 3rd December, all UK Tesco stores hosted a food collection for either a Trussell Trust foodbank or our partner charity, FareShare, to help stop UK hunger.

During this ninth Neighbourhood Food Collection, generous communities nationwide have provided food for a fantastic 2.8 million meals to help struggling individuals and families this Christmas. This means that since the Neighbourhood Food Collection began in 2012, an astounding 41 million meals have been collected.

Christmas can be a difficult time for individuals and families who are already managing on extremely tight budgets. The increased winter fuel bills, and the pressure of choosing between heating and eating, will sadly push many families into food crisis.

David McAuley, Trussell Trust CEO said: “The staggering generosity of Tesco customers, store colleagues and volunteers, means foodbanks across the country will be able to provide vital food and support to people who are struggling during what could be our busiest December yet. Thank you for your support – your generosity will help stop hunger this Christmas.”

Tesco also top-up customer donations by making a 20% financial contribution to us, meaning the collection has not only provided vital food for UK people experiencing crisis, but funds will help Trussell Trust foodbanks provide important support beyond food, to tackle the root causes of poverty.

We are thrilled that the UK’s largest supermarket shares our vision that no one should go hungry, and is working with us to empower local communities and fight poverty.
