Launched in 2007 with an official opening in March 2008, the House of Joshua Scravena is a house that has become a home for its residents. The life skills training, employment experience and family atmosphere are
changing the lives of these young people.
Meet Stoyil, our first graduate

'In the orphanage you don't know what life's like - whether it's happy or sad. Now I know what life offers and that I have to make the most of it.' -Stoyil, on his graduation, Autumn 2009
Abandoned aged nine, Stoyil joined the House of Joshua from an orphanage when he reached 18. He was unable use a knife and fork, could not look anyone in the eye and hid food under his bed for fear of people stealing it. Two years on he is a friendly, confident young man with a great smile. He's a good cook and is living independently with a job at a local school. He has even helped coach the local football team. Stoyil is unrecognisable from the shy, nervous young man we met two years ago and we are so pleased with what he has achieved. Seeing lives like Stoyil's changed so dramatically is what make us so passionate about giving more young people the opportunities they need to build brighter futures. |
All our young residents are growing, learning and developing fast. They don't find everything easy, they don't always want to go to work or help with the cooking but they are part of a family and they have achieved so much. They are able to live a normal life and have a hope for the future.
