50th UK foodbank opens!
Llanelli’s foodbank launch sparked major celebrations at The Trussell Trust as the goal of 50 UK foodbanks was reached ahead of our 2010 target. Every new foodbank launched means that more and more people in crisis receive the emergency food that they need to get back on their feet. A simple gift of food and support really does transform lives.
50 is a landmark for the foodbank network but there are hundreds of UK towns and cities without foodbanks so there is a long way to go. Our vision is for every UK town to have a foodbank. In 2009-10 we hope to feed 35,000 people across the UK but in 2010-11 this could be so much more!
Growing new foodbanks is so important, especially as recession continues to bite, but it is really stretching our resources. We hardly ever see Jeremy, our very busy foodbank network manager, as he speeds around the UK setting up new foodbanks.
To keep on helping local people to feed those in crisis in their communities we urgently need more resources... If you can help please get in touch.
