Record number of foodbanks open nationwide

 

People across the UK are feeling the pinch but new foodbanks working to feed the growing number of people in crisis are springing up faster than ever.  With six foodbanks opening nationwide over the next six weeks, The Trussell Trust's foodbank network is proving that local communities nationwide are responding practically to the needs of the nation. Thank you Salisbury: Biggest foodbank supermarket collection this year!
The people of Salisbury have donated a whopping 1200.6 kg of food and £123.83 to The Trussell Trust's foodbank.
 
The recent food collection outside Waitrose was The Trust's largest supermarket collection in 2008 and is equal to 60 emergency family food boxes.

New roofs keep rain off poorest Roma children
50 Bulgarian children living in poverty are looking forward to dry housing this winter thanks to The Trussell Trust and local retired builder, Mike Hatch.
 
The Trust repaired 13 badly leaking roofs in Botevgrad Roma Community, helping to make the freezing winter much more bearable for almost 100 people. Mike Hatch gave his time for free, the gypsy community helped provide labour and The Trust co-ordinated the project and provided the materials.

Building a Bulgarian playground:
Local team gives time for free to bring delight to disadvantaged children.
 
Two weeks of hard labour and sleeping in an orphanage school's gymnasium may not be everyone's idea of a holiday. For Peter Jackson and The Trussell Trust's Neil Emery and Chris Graham, however, volunteering to build an adventure playground for orphaned or abandoned children in Bulgaria was worth it when they saw the children's grins. Bags for Bulgaria:
Bags of clothes to send abandoned Bulgarian children on a summer holiday.
 
The Trussell Trust, is asking people to donate bags full of re-usable clothes to help raise funds for their annual summer camp. Every year The Trust takes 40 disadvantaged Bulgarian children on a 10 day beach respite camp. With only two months to go until this year's camp, funds are running low, so the charity has come up with an ingenious solution. MORE >>
