Winter Feeding
22p per day - enough to feed a child?
The Bulgarian State supplies a meagre 22p per day to feed a child at Lipnitza. Providing enough food for the children with so little money is a real struggle for the staff, which is why we provide supplementary funds during winter.
With temperatures reaching -20 degrees during the coldest months, extra food is very important. A recent cut in the budget together with rising inflation in the country has put an increased strain upon the school's finances, making the need for additional funding for feeding all the more important. In the past, a lack of money has forced the school to shut because it could not feed the children. We are working to make sure that this does not happen again.
Supplementary funding for the winter feeding programme enables the school to provide a level of care that would otherwise be impossible to achieve, keeping the children healthy and well-fed. The Trust also encourages the school to grow their own food as a sustainable way of adding to the children's diets.
We encourage businesses, individuals and organisations to partner with us in funding the winter feeding project. If your organisation would like to help us feed Lipnitza's children please contact our Bulgaria team on 01722 427113.
