What happens when
school closes for the summer? Government funding only allows Lipnitza to be open during term time. Children recognised by the state as true orphans are transferred to other institutions during the holidays (three times a year). However, many of the children don’t fall into this category. They are forced to return ‘home’, which might mean nowhere to live and nobody to look after them. To keep these children safe, we take the most vulnerable to respite care camps. |

Summer holiday project
The summer holidays have developed into so much more than simply keeping the children off the street. For ten days in August, we take over 40 Lipnitza children to the village of Kranevo on the Black Sea Coast. Accompanied by a small UK youth team, the children come alive. Among the sports, crafts and other activities, they have the chance to become children again. For many, the attention and affection given by those running the holiday are a world away from the burden of having no stable home or family. Likewise, the children are a massive inspiration to those from the UK - though they have so little, they are so willing to share. It is amazing that those who have always been shunned and rejected still live with so much joy and hope. Over the ten days, memories are made for everyone - memories the children treasure through Bulgaria's long winter months. In addition we run Christian teaching workshops on the summer camp. These vary in format and are highly interactive. Through teaching, drama, music and games we aim to convey the key elements of the Christian faith on which we are based. This is also an opportunity to encourage and strengthen the children through prayer, which is something that they are hugely appreciative of and really respond to.
